Group Captain Krishan Kumar Bakshi, Vr.C, VM

During the India-Pakistan war in December 1971, Squadron Leader K.K Bakshi was a senior pilot in one of the fighter bomber squadrons. On December 6, he was leading a mission over the Nayachor and Dhoran area. While proceeding to the target, his number 2 spotted a formation of four enemy Sabre aircraft. Though outnumbered, he turned towards the enemy aircraft and engaged them in an aerial battle. In the ensuing dogfight, he shot down one Pakistani Sabre.

He also led a number of offensive air strike missions, causing extensive destruction to enemy ground defended positions, vehicles and troops in the face of heavy ground fire.

Squadron Leader Krishan Kumar Bakshi was awarded the Vir Chakra for displaying gallantry, professional skill and leadership of a high order.
