Wing Commander Anil Kumar Sinha, VrC

Wing Commander Anil Kumar Sinha was the Commanding Officer of Squadron No.129 Helicopter Unit during the Kargil conflict with Pakistan.

On 28 May 99, Wg Cdr Sinha led a formation of Mi-17 gunships on an attack mission targeting Pakistani positions at Tololing, Tiger Hill(Point 5140). The Pakistani posts suffered heavy damage by the rocket strikes, which greatly demoralised their troops on the ground. The Pakistani intruders retaliated by firing Stinger missiles. Two missiles narrowly missed Wg Cdr Sinha's gunship. However his No.3 in the formation(Sqn Ldr Pundir and Flt Lt Muhilan) got shot down by a Pakistani Stinger missile.

In April 2000, Wing Commander Anil Kumar Sinha was awarded the "Vir Chakra" for displaying gallantry, leadership and professional skill of a high order.
