Air Chief Inaugurates high surgical wing for retired personnel

In Feb 1998, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Satish Kumar Sareen inaugurated the ultra modern, state-of-the-art operation theatre complex at Air Force super speciality veterans hospital (SSVH) here today. SSVH was set up in 1996 to provide specialised medical care for the ex-servicemen and their families which is not available from the service hospitals. The hospital provides highly specialised facilities like Haemodialysis, Cancer Chemotherapy and Intra Ocular Lense Surgery. The hospital also has the facilities of ICU and CCU to cater all types of emergencies.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief of the Air Staff said that the inauguration of the ultra modern operation theature has paved the way for onco surgery (Cancer Surgery) and will also facilitate joint replacement surgery shortly. In the next phase it is envlsaged to add the facilities for the treatment of cardiac patients which will include cardiac catherisation laboratory for doing coronary Anglography and coronary Balloon anglography as also by pass surgery in association with recognised advanced cardiac centres in civil.

Further, Air Chief Marshal Sareen said, the SSVH project, a venture funded from non-public funds from IAF and by Air Force Wives Welfare Association, is the biggest such welfare venture in the armed forces. An amount of Rs.5.6 crore has already been spent on the project including building and medical equipment of this an amount of Rs.2.6 crore has been contributed by AFWWA. In addition a corpus of Rs.5 crore has been set up from the non-public funds and AFWWA to meet the running expenditure of the hospital.

On this occasion Dr (Mrs) Aruna Sareen, President AFWWA, presented a cheque of rupees one crore as part of the contribution towards the project from AFWWA. AFWWA has also assured an annual outlay of rupess one crore per annum for this project for meeting recurring expenditure.
