Lt. Gen. T.P.S. Brar, YSM

On Aug 19, 2002, Lt General T.P.S. Brar took over as General Officer Commanding(GOC) of the prestigious 16 Corp. He replaced Lt Gen J.B.S. Yadava, who was promoted as deputy Army chief.

Lt Gen Brar was commissioned into the elite 1st Maratha Light Infantry in 1966 and took part in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. He was awarded the Yudh Seva Medal (YSM) for service rendered as part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka.

During his career, Brar has held various staff, instructional and command appointments, which included a four-year tenure at the School of Infantry at Warminster in UK.

The 16 Corps, which looks after operational area from south of Pir Panjal in Jammu to parts of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, is one of the biggest corps in the region.
