Saroj Demonstrating Rangoli

Rangoli is a traditional art form originally done in rice powder. It was considered a sign of good luck if crows came to eat some of the powder. Now a chalk/sand mixture is more commonly used. It is often used to decorate the entrance of houses during festivals, but many women also do small designs outside their homes daily. These are a symbol of welcome to Laxmi, the goddess of luck and prosperity.
